U.S.-based Poynter Institute Launches “NewsU Turkiye” Program for Journalism

In collaboration with the U.S. Consulate in Istanbul and Medya Derneği, the Poynter Institute launches NewsU Turkiye, an online program in Turkish designed to provide training on journalistic skills in an evolving digital media landscape.

Four free courses are open to anyone who wishes to access the training:

  • Social Media:  Strategies and Tools for News
  • Developing a Successful Journalistic Blog
  • Introduction to Investigative Reporting
  • Getting it Right: Accuracy and Verification in the Digital Age

Journalism Certificate Program: Participants interested in a certificate must successfully complete the four online courses and assessments by July 1, 2014.  Participants who have obtained a certificate would be eligible to apply for a fellowship to study at the Poynter Institute Campus in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Participation in the Journalism Certificate Program is free of charge.

Poynter – Türkiye Journalism Fellowship:  Approximately 20 Turkish journalists on partial or full scholarships will attend a program during the last week of October 2014 at the Poynter Institute campus.  Eligibility requirements include earning the Journalism Certificate and completing an application about the applicant’s current journalism work.  The Poynter Institute will select the candidates by August 1, 2014.

The application deadline for the Poynter – Türkiye Journalism Fellowship Program is July 1, 2014.
